Under Canada’s leadership the Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) has committed to doing “whatever it takes” to build an infrastructure of support and structure around the children who live in this most blighted area so they can profit from a quality education.

George D. KuhGeorge Kuh is Chancellor's Professor of Higher Education at Indiana University Bloomington and director of the Center for Postsecondary Research. George founded the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and related instruments for law students, beginning college students, and faculty, and provides leadership for the College Student Experiences Questionnaire Assessment Program. He currently directs two national projects, the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) with Stan Ikenberry at the University of Illinois and the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP), the first-ever in-depth look at the factors that help or hinder the careers of graduates of arts-intensive training high schools and postsecondary institutions

Lieutenant Governor Barbara O'BrianLt. Gov. O’Brien chairs Colorado’s team for competing for the U.S. Department of Education Race to the Top funding for education reform. She also serves as co-chair for Colorado’s P-20 Education Committee, appointed by Gov. Bill Ritter to recommend changes in Colorado’s preschool through post-secondary education system in order to position it for the 21st Century. Since 2007, the committee has proposed numerous changes in state policy including creating an educator identifier for the data system, revising all content standards from preschool through post-secondary, extending the student identifier to young children in publically funded early childhood education programs, creating statewide, full day kindergarten, expanding preschool for the most at-risk children, creating a fund to support district level alternative teacher compensation plans, improving data systems, standardizing alternative teacher licensure, and many others.

Joseph Renzulli and Sally ReisJoseph Renzulli and Sally Reis, a husband and wife team, are internationally known for their work to extend enrichment and differentiated teaching and instruction to all students. Dr. Joseph Renzulli, Director of the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented at the University of Connecticut, holds the Lynn and Ray Neag Chair in Educational Psychology where he has been a professor for over 40 years. He is a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor at the University of Connecticut, an award given to only three professors a year from across the University and the medical, law, and dental schools. Sally M. Reis is also a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor and serves as a Principal Investigator for the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented as well as a professor in Educational Psychology. Both Renzulli and Reis began their careers as public school teachers.

Harry and Rosemary WongHarry and Rosemary are teachers, whose lifework is to help other teachers be effective. Research is conclusive that the most significant variable in student performance is having an effective teacher. Their book has sold more copies than any other book in the world of school improvement, giving teachers what they need to plan a successful school year. The tenets of First Days of Schools are used in tens of thousands of classrooms at all levels in thousands and thousands of schools around the world. The First Days of School has endurance, (over thirty years in print) distance (it is in multiple languages and in countries around the world), and prominence (ask any teacher!). It is also a part of an intentional effort on the part of Harry and Rosemary to make a lasting effect on all humanity by teaching the teachers.
